Le stanze di Flaubert. Intérieurs tra scrittura e immagine intorno alla metà dell'Ottocento

The essay focuses on the analysis of the interior scenes in Gustave Flaubert's L'Éducation Sentimentale (1869). The paper aims to shed light on the importance assumed by the theme of the interior in extra-pictorial French production during the same years in which genre painters and avant-garde painters were interested in these subjects. In this perspective, the essay tries to trace and to analyze the figurative sources which may have attracted the French writer (for example, popular illustration and Daumier's lithography), aiming to reveal, at the same time, parallels with the French figurative production of the period and, specifically, the visual affinity of the writer's descriptions with works by Gustave De Jonghe, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet.

Partendo dall’analisi delle scene d’interno che compaiono nell’Éducation Sentimentale (1869) di Gustave Flaubert, il contributo vuole far luce sull’importanza assunta dal motivo dell’intérieur nelle manifestazioni extra-pittoriche francesi, negli stessi anni in cui pittori di genere e di avanguardia ne facevano soggetto prediletto di studio. In questa prospettiva si è tentato di rintracciare e analizzare le fonti figurative che possono aver interessato lo scrittore francese (a partire dall’illustrazione popolare, Daumier in testa), puntando a rivelare, contemporaneamente, paralleli con la produzione figurativa francese del periodo e, nello specifico, sulle affinità visuali delle descrizioni dello scrittore con opere di Gustave De Jonghe, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet.
